18 persons have been burnt to death in an auto crash along the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway on Sunday.
On April 8th, a fatal accident occurred on the Enguu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu State, Nigeria. The accident involved an 18-seater bus and a Mercedes Tipper truck that collided head-on at Ituku, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State at about 8:30 pm.
Tragically, more than eighteen passengers on the bus were burnt beyond recognition, with the exception of the tipper driver, who was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the tipper truck with registration number AAA 285 XTR was loaded with bags of cement and was driving against traffic from Enugu City when it hit the bus (registration number NKE 622 XA), which was loaded with passengers coming from Aba in Abia State. In response to the tragic accident, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls.
CP Ammani also ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident, including obtaining the identities of the deceased victims and their relatives.
He cautioned motorists against disobeying road traffic rules, especially during this Easter season when Christians are commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
