A 17-year-old student from Government Secondary School in Gboko, Benue State, named Terhemba Tyochivir, took his own life on Thursday.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed this sad news on Friday, reporting that it was reported to the E Division Police Station in Makurdi.
Details about the incident are still unclear. When the boy’s parents discovered him, they rushed him to Bishop Murray Hospital in Makurdi. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital confirmed his death.
Efforts to speak with the father of the deceased, Kula Tyochivir, were unsuccessful as he preferred to discuss the matter at a later time.
Bandits Abduct University Students in Zamfara State
In a separate incident, armed bandits abducted an unspecified number of students from the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara State.
This occurred during the early hours of Friday when the bandits invaded the Sabon-Gida community in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to a resident of Sabon-Gida named Nazeer Sabon-Gida, who spoke to Channels TV, the gunmen entered the community around 3 a.m. and began shooting indiscriminately.
They targeted three student hostels and took all the students from those hostels. The exact number of kidnapped students is still uncertain.
During this attack, the bandits engaged in a fierce gun battle with Nigerian Army troops. However, this did not prevent the bandits from escaping with the kidnapped students.
It is reported that the bandits are divided into two groups, with one group taking the students and the other group engaging the army in a gunfight.
This incident follows previous protests by university students in June, expressing concerns about the frequent kidnappings of their fellow students in Sabon-Gida and Damba.
