The United States Department of Defense has reportedly deployed surveillance aircraft, including the RQ-4B Global Hawk drone, into Nigerian airspace to conduct reconnaissance on ISWAP and Boko Haram hideouts across the country.
According to sources, the aircraft have entered and exited Nigerian airspace multiple times undetected, capturing imagery, video, and audio of militant activities and forest settlements. A 24/7 surveillance operation is said to be active, with intercepted communications being translated and analyzed.
Communication networks of the terrorist groups are being monitored, and past conversations are under review. The operation reportedly includes tracking individuals, security personnel, or government officials linked to the militants.
U.S. authorities are said to be withholding certain intelligence from Nigerian security agencies due to concerns about potential sabotage, despite existing security agreements that permit unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations under AFRICOM supervision.
In a related development, the U.S. Senate has confirmed Lieutenant General Dagvin Anderson as the new commander of an independent AFRICOM unit to strengthen the U.S. military’s rapid response to threats in Africa.
Sources also indicate that undercover operatives have infiltrated bandit enclaves since the arrival of American Marines, with plans to extend surveillance to all conflict zones in Nigeria.
Security analyst Brant Philip reportedly confirmed: “I can confirm that the United States has begun conducting operations inside Nigeria as part of an agreement with the Nigerian government aimed at tackling escalating terrorism.”
