President Tinubu Forecasts Stronger Economic Growth for Nigeria in 2026

In his New Year address, President Bola Tinubu declared that 2026 will initiate a stronger phase of economic growth for Nigeria, driven by ongoing reforms and improved investor confidence.

The President stated that the nation concluded 2025 with positive momentum, citing a GDP growth rate projected above 4%, inflation falling below 15%, stable trade surpluses, and a steady exchange rate.

He highlighted significant gains, including the Nigerian Stock Exchange’s 48.12% annual growth, foreign reserves of $45.4 billion, and a sharp increase in foreign direct investment to $720 million in Q3 2025. These improvements, recognized by major credit rating agencies, reflect renewed global investor trust.

Tinubu outlined the administration’s focus on fair tax reforms, fiscal discipline, and major investments in infrastructure including roads, power, ports, and agriculture. On security, he acknowledged persistent threats and emphasized ongoing military operations alongside the development of decentralized policing models.

Looking ahead, the President announced that 2026 will prioritize inclusive growth through programs like the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, aiming to economically empower millions of Nigerians. He concluded by urging national unity and shared responsibility, wishing citizens a peaceful and prosperous new year.
