Paul Pogba, the 32-year-old World Cup champion from France and midfielder for AS Monaco, has invested in Al Haboob, a camel racing team based in Saudi Arabia, after recently having his doping suspension lifted this summer.
Making his return to competitive football last month, Pogba expressed his admiration for the commitment involved in camel racing and even joked about the prospect of owning the world’s priciest camel someday.
Al Haboob was established by Saudi entrepreneurs to modernize and professionalize the age-old tradition of camel racing in the Arabian Peninsula, where elite camels can fetch prices exceeding $5 million. Pogba’s participation is anticipated to attract global interest and aid in the establishment of an international league for the sport.
