NAFDAC d£stroys counterfeit dr¥gs, substandard products worth N4.7bn in Rivers state

Men of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have destroyed counterfeit and expired drugs, unwholesome processed food and substandard products worth N4.7 billion in Rivers State.

The operation was carried out at the Aluu dumpsite in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The destroyed products included substandard medical supplies and expired goods seized from manufacturers, importers, and distributors.

Among the seized items were unregistered cosmetics, imported vegetable oil lacking Vitamin A fortification, and two 40-ft containers of unregistered drugs handed over by the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Custom Service.

A statement on NAFDAC’s X handle, on Monday, 10th of February 2025 reads:

“NAFDAC has destroyed counterfeit and expired drugs, unwholesome processed food and substandard products worth ₦4.7 billion in Rivers State. The exercise took place at the Aluu dumpsite in Ikwerre LGA.

“The destroyed products included substandard medical supplies and expired goods seized from manufacturers, importers, and distributors. Items voluntarily surrendered from compliant companies and associations were also part of the destruction.

“Among the confiscated items were unregistered cosmetics, imported vegetable oil lacking Vitamin A fortification, and two 40-ft containers of unregistered drugs handed over by the #CustomsNG in Edo State.

“NAFDAC reiterates its commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring only high-quality and safe products reach consumers.
