Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused President Bola Tinubu of unlawfully deducting ₦100 billion monthly from the Federation Account without legislative approval, describing the action as unconstitutional and impeachable. El-Rufai, once a political ally of Tinubu, revealed in a viral interview that these deductions, allegedly allocated to security agencies, have persisted for over 15 months, totaling ₦1.5 trillion, yet security conditions have worsened nationwide.
He emphasized that neither the National Assembly nor state assemblies authorized these withdrawals, raising serious concerns about transparency and fiscal accountability.
The allegations have sparked widespread debate, with many Nigerians questioning El-Rufai’s timing, given his previous support for Tinubu’s presidency. Critics argue that the deductions undermine democratic oversight, while others demand investigations into the funds’ utilization, especially amid rising insecurity and economic hardship.
The controversy further deepens political tensions, as El-Rufai’s claims challenge the administration’s narrative of fiscal discipline and reform.
