Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, a senior officer and Commanding Officer in the Nigerian Army, was reportedly killed during a Boko Haram attack on a military base in Kukawa, Borno State.
The attackers also targeted residents in the Kukawa community. A military source confirmed Farouq and several of his men as casualties.
This comes less than 72 hours after another senior officer, Lieutenant Colonel S.I. Iliyasu of the 222 Battalion, was killed in Konduga, Borno.
