Pastor Olubakin to Women: Financial Dependence Makes You Vulnerable to Abûse

Pastor Phillip Olubakin has sparked intense reactions online after delivering a sermon focused on women, money, and what he believes defines a “kingdom marriage.”

In the fiery message, the cleric stressed that a wife must have her own financial strength, insisting that dependence on a man fuels unhealthy relationships.

Sharing a personal example, he said, “I told my wife, ‘Can you borrow me a million?’ My wife borrowed me a million right there. I want to have a wife that can borrow me one million, that can borrow me two million. That’s a kingdom marriage. That means she has her life going.”

He went further to describe the kind of dynamic he admires in marriage: “Even me, I want to be borrowing money from my wife and not pay it back. I want to be able to borrow like, ‘Please, borrow me 2 million there. 1 million there,’ and not pay it back. That’s a wife. A wife that is boxed up. Not a wife that is collecting transport, transport, transport.”

Addressing women directly, Pastor Olubakin linked financial dependence to vulnerability in relationships.

“And that is why they are beating you in the relationship. You are poor. You don’t have your own money. You cannot eat without him. You cannot drink without him. No rent without him. No clothes without him. No, no, no data! You have nothing going for you.”

He added a thought-provoking highlight to the sermon, saying, “The guy tells you to go to hell, you still don’t have transport. You can’t go to hell! You have to beg for transport to go to hell.”
