Nigerian Army Identifies Boko Haram as Perpetrators of Mosque Bombing in Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army has announced that Boko Haram insurgents carried out the fatal bombing at the Gamboru Mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The confirmation came from Operation Hadin Kai headquarters following an investigation into the Wednesday evening attack during prayers. The explosion caused widespread panic and resulted in numerous casualties.

According to a statement by spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, initial findings show a suspected Boko Haram bomber detonated an improvised explosive device inside the mosque, killing himself and two others at the scene.

Victims were quickly taken to hospitals in Maiduguri, where two more of the injured later died. A total of 32 civilians were wounded, with two in critical condition; the remainder are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.

Uba stated that troops, police bomb disposal units, other security agencies, and state emergency officials swiftly secured the area. He assured residents that security has been heightened in Maiduguri and nearby communities to prevent further attacks, particularly during the holiday period.
