FUNAAB’s Best Graduating Student Credits Achievement to Parents’ Faith

Joy Osianor, the Valedictorian and Best Graduating Student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Class of 2025, has attributed her outstanding academic success to the deep spiritual devotion and sacrifices of her parents.

Speaking during her Valedictory Address at the university’s 33rd Convocation, Osianor described her top honours as a product of her family’s steadfast spiritual and emotional backing. “While the guidance of my supervisors and the support of my coursemates were vital, it was the unwavering prayers and fasting of my parents, especially during my exams, that truly carried me through,” she stated.

She reflected on the unique hurdles faced by her graduating class, including the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic which led to postponed matriculation and a transition to online learning. According to her, these trials ultimately fostered greater resilience, adaptability, and unity among the students.

Looking to the future, Osianor encouraged her peers to embrace ambitious goals and lead impactful lives. “If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough,” she advised, urging them to move forward with courage, compassion, and clear purpose.

To conclude her speech, she performed three symbolic bows: one in memory of deceased classmates, a second in honour of FUNAAB, and a final, deep bow of gratitude for her parents’ sacrifices, a gesture that earned a prolonged applause from the audience.

Her tribute elevated a personal story of faith into a broader celebration of collective perseverance and academic distinction, highlighting the foundational role of family support in nurturing young high-achievers.
