Villarreal coach, Unai Emery has said that his team eliminated Bayern Munich from the Champions League quarter-final stage because his players were perfect in defence.
Emery watched as Villarreal drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg tie in Germany on Tuesday night, thanks to Samuel Chukwueze’s second-half goal.
Emery’s side advanced to the Champions League semi-final on a 2-1 aggregate win, having won 1-0 in the first leg in Spain last week.
Speaking during his post-match press conference, Emery said, “The feeling is unbeatable. We are achieving important things. It was a huge game, but the first leg already said a lot about how we were going to respond today. We were perfect in defence.
“When we scored the goal, it came at a very critical moment – because when Bayern scored a goal, they have shown in other games that they can then score two or three.”

He added, “To achieve something, you have to do important things and beat the favourites. That [round of 16] game against Juventus gave us a lot of confidence. In the semi-finals, we will try to create circumstances so that we have our chances. Liverpool are a great team and Benfica, too. It will be a great semi-final to enjoy.”
