Staff of Nigeria prison service, Awka escorting inmates to court in Ekwulobia Anambra state were gunned down this morning by unknown Gunmen.
The two prison warders were killed on Friday, March 19 when gunmen attacked a vehicle of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, conveying some inmates to court in Anambra state.
An eyewitness account revealed that the officials and inmates in the vehicle scampered for safety during the attack.
The tragic incident was Confirmed in a statement by the public relations officer of NCS in Anambra, Francis Ekechukwu.
According to the spokesperson, the service had launched an investigation into the attack.
The Anambra police spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu also confirmed the incidentd in a statement.
“It is very unfortunate, but police operatives swiftly responded and chased the hoodlums away. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of this act,”
