Two ministers in Malawi have died of coronavirus after battling with the virus on Tuesday, January 12.
Officials have identified the ministers as the Local Government Minister, Lingson Belekanyama, and the Minister of Transport and Public Works Sidik Mia.
Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako and Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda separately confirmed the deaths.

According to reports, the two ministers died in the early hours of Tuesday.
As of January 11, 2021, Malawi had recorded 452 new positive cases, taking the number of active cases to 2,744. The death toll has exceeded 230 since the first case was recorded on April 2, 2020.

In a radio address last Sunday, President Lazarus Chakwera urged the nation not to politicise the pandemic and instead work as one to combat the shared threat posed by the new coronavirus.
