The Nigerian activist and convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly embarked on a hunger strike in protest against the State Security Service, SSS, refusal to obey court order to release.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, Mr Sowore’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, disclosed that all administrative processes surrounding Mr Sowore’s bail had been concluded and the release order had been signed by Justice Ojukwu, DailyNigeria reports
Mr Effiong, on his Twitter handle, said:
“I left Sowore and Mandate at the SSS headquarters some minutes ago.
“I can confirm that the SSS has been served with the order of the Federal High Court ordering their release having perfected their bail conditions. We are waiting for compliance. I cannot say more than this now”.
It was however reported that 24 hours after meeting the bail conditions, the SSS is yet to implement the court order.
Consequently, Mr Sowore’s lead counsel, Femi Falana, in a text message to PREMIUM TIMES on Friday, disclosed that the activist had refused to eat or see anybody in apparent protest for the SSS refusal to obey court order.
According to him, Mr Sowore insisted on not seeing anyone, including the people who take his food to him in prison.
Mr Falana said:
“Since yesterday (Thursday) he has refused to come down. He has refused to see anybody and this is in protest that his rights are being violated.
“He has not eaten because the DSS don’t feed him and he is rejecting food from the people who usually take food to him in detention.”
