Haiti, Gonaves – During an event commemorating Haiti’s independence on Saturday, January 1, gunmen attempted but failed to assassinate Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
According to the New York Times, “bandits and terrorists” attempted to assassinate Henry at a church in Gonaves where the ceremony was held on Monday, January 3.
When the shooting began, Henry was forced to flee the scene and was placed in a vehicle by security agents. Although the number of people killed and injured in the attack, which the police described as the work of an armed group, local media reported that at least one person was killed and two others were injured.
In response to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said:
“An attempt has been made against me personally. My life has been put in the crosshairs.”
