The president’s letter was read at the floor of the senate during Tuesday plenary by the senate president, Ahmed Lawan
Buhari’s transmission of the Bill to the lawmakers was done pursuant to Sections 58 and 59 of the 1999 Constitution.
Key reforms to taxation and Customs among other far-reaching decisions were proposed in the bill against the backdrop of the international oil price decline and effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
This is coming after the federal executive council, FEC, approved the 2020 financial bill on Wednesday, November 18 during the FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The transmission of the bill to the national assembly was also confirmed in a tweet by the president’s media aid, Bashir Ahmad.
Taking to twitter, he wrote:
President @MBuhari has forwarded the 2020 Finance Bill, to the National Assembly, seeking its expeditious passage into law to aid the implementation of the proposed 2021 budget, Senate President, @DrAhmadLawan reads the President’s letter today at the NASS plenary.
