President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reacted to the report of British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, and America’s Cable News Network, CNN over the ENDSARS protest incident at the Lekki Tollgate on 20 october.
At the meeting with the state governors at the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday December 8, the president said he is disgusted with the coverage of the two media houses.
The president’s displeasure was contained in a statement released by the presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
The president in the statement accused CNN and BBC of failing to report about the killing of police officers and attacks on police stations and prisons.
The president was quoted saying:
“I was disgusted by the coverage, which did not give attention to the policemen that were killed, the stations that were burnt, and prisons that were opened. (They said we are all at fault. We don’t have the sympathy of anyone. We are on our own).”
CNN in their first report said a forensic probe of the bullet casings were recovered from the scene of the incident which revealed that live bullets were fired at the protesters.
CNN had said on twitter:
In the second report, CNN released a video where soldiers could be seen shooting at unarmed protesters on October 20, 2020 at Lekki Tollgate.
The report also captured moment protesters were running as soldiers open fire at the tollgate.
