Just minutes after Boko Haram militants fired a rocket into Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, President Muhammadu Buhari arrived for a one-day working visit.
Buhari and senior government officials arrived at the Maiduguri Airforce Base at 11:45 a.m.
The Governor of Borno, Prof. Babagana Zulum, was present to greet him, as were all of the security service leaders who had arrived in the city earlier.
The president will visit Borno for the second time in six months on June 21, 2021, when he commissioned massive projects undertaken by the Borno State Government and the North East Development Commission.
The president was driven directly from the airport to the Shiek Tijjani Bolori Mega School in Quarter Maiduguri.
According to reports, all markets were forced to close during the visit, and most routes within the capital were partially stopped or diverted until the president left at 2 p.m.
Earlier in the day, Boko Haram fighters attacked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, in preparation for the President’s arrival.
Three communities in Maiduguri’s Ngomari airport general area are thought to have been targeted by insurgents.
The attackers appeared to have chosen the airport as their target, striking at 10:45 a.m., just minutes before Buhari’s arrival.
