A 29-year-old man identified as Anthony Uwazuruike, who was caught in the act of sodomy with a man nearly three years ago is still on wanted list.
Uwazuruike who is still on the run has been declared wanted by both the police and council of elders in his community.
According to the Conventional Ruler of Asaba, HRM, Prof. Joseph Chike Edozien, CFR, JP, on behave of council of elders said the suspect had evoked the wrath of the gods upon the neighborhood.
The elders alleged that Uwazuruike was caught sometime in February, 2016 committing act of homosexuality with one other man.
He allegedly committed the crime in umuagu In Asaba oshimili South Native Authorities Space of Delta State.
After they both fled, his partner was caught and murdered by an irate mob of neighborhood youths while Uwazuruike is still at large.
Though his house was burnt down few days later by angry youths and elders of the community.
Elders of the community are insisted that he should surrender himself for conventional cleaning and rituals to appease the neighborhood deities.
One of the Elders said
“The gods are offended as a result of homosexuality is an abomination in our neighborhood. Custom calls for that anybody who commits sodomy have to be introduced to the neighborhood deities to determine his destiny, which most instances is demise sentence.
“Anthony Uwazuruike has didn’t current himself for the mandatory rituals and the king has directed that he be introduced useless or alive”, a member of the Elders council.”
It was gathered that part of the process of traditional cleansing would include among other rituals, the culprit will walk naked on the street, while being stoned by the people.
“It is a painful and embarrassing experience which no man would want to go through, because he might not survive the ordeal”, an elder in the community further added.
Meanwhile, following a complaint lodged by the community, the police in Agbor have declared Anthony Uwazuruike wanted for committing act of homosexuality.
Nigeria’s immediate past President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan had in January 2014, signed the same sex prohibition and other related offence Act into law.
The law provides for 14 years imprisonment for anyone found guility of sodomy while the Tradition and custom of most Nigerian communities demand stiffer penalties, and in some cases, outright killing by public mob, Mobilized9ja.com.ng reports.
