Police arrest three with human heart in Osun, one dies in custody

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended three accused ritualists carrying human hearts on the Osogbo/OAU Ife Campus Road in Osogbo, Osun State.

The accused, Olayade Kehinde, 25, Olufemi Oriyomi, 21, and Raimi Sheriff, 21, were apprehended by police investigators on’stop and search’ duty last Thursday, April 7.

SP Yemisi Opalola, a spokesman for the Command, said in a statement on Friday that the trio on a motorbike were flagged down by Police on a ‘Stop and Search,’ but “rather than stopping, raced off, and were chased.”

According to the statement, the trio was apprehended in the Safejo region of Ile-Ife.

The human heart, which they said belonged to one of their pals, as well as several illicit charms, were discovered on them, according to Opalola.

Opalola went on to say that one of the accused, Oriyomi fell sick and was taken to hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, died while on admission.

His corpse, according to her, has been deposited at the State hospital for autopsy.

“The remaining two suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, however, advised parents to monitor their children, and warn them against bad company they might be moving with.

He also admonished the youths “to always engage in lawful business, and shun anything that will jeopardize their brighter future, which includes all forms of ‘get rich quick’ syndrome.”
