People living with disability hit a major road in Benue to protest negligence on the side of the state government over their welfare.
The angry protesters block Jona Jang Road at Federal Secretariat Makurdi this morning, Tuesday January 12.
The protesters who were mostly in wheel chairs demand that Government should give them 5% employment as demanded by the law.
They are also demanding more slots in the non-teaching arm of the State Teaching Service Board (TSB) and Federal government incentives.
They alleged that their applications as non-teaching staff of TSB were largely disqualified and they are also using the Federal Secretariat to send a message to the federal government.
According to them, they have been marginalize for a long time by the Benue state government.
Security agents among whom are police, DSS have been drafted to the main gate of the Secretariat to prevent break down of law and order.
One of the protesters, Tersoo Agudo said:
“Most of our people were not given the appointment. Instead of giving to our people, the disabled, the able people have taken over
The angry disabled persons were chatting solidarity songs while carrying placards.
