Benue State government has banned the holding of picnics during the 2020 Christmas and 2021 New Year Celebrations in the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom who briefed journalists at the end of the State Security Council Meeting today urged Benue people to celebrate the festivities with their families, saying the ban was in line with COVID-19 protocol regarding public gatherings.
He stated that council reviewed the general security situation in the state and took steps on how best to protect lives and property especially during the festivities.
According to him, issues of herdsmen attacks, banditry, assasinations, cult activities, armed robbery and kidnapping were also reviewed based on briefings from security heads.
The Governor urged people of the state to volunteer intelligence to security agents for prompt action.
