There are 17 political parties battling for votes in the election, but the three main contestants are Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eyitayo Jegede of the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party.
The election has been peaceful to a good extent but for few reports of violence in some polling units. Voting has closed in many polling units and Legit.ng is bringing you live updates as results of votes counted emerge.

FRESHREPORTERS reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the Ondo governorship election at exactly 8 am on Saturday, October 10, amidst tight security.
According to INEC, the analysis of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) collection across the councils shows voters’ enthusiasm with 1,478, 460 cards collected represent 81 per cent of the 1,822, 346 total voter population.

Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the ongoing governorship election in Ondo State has won his polling unit.
The result of the polling unit where Jegede and his wife, Eno, exercised their franchise was announced on Saturday afternoon by the Independent National Electoral Commission presiding officer at the unit.
The result showed that Jegede polled a total of 220 votes, while incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Rotimi Akeredolu, scored 60 votes.
Mr Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor and candidate of Zenith Labour Party, came third at the polling unit after scoring seven votes.
