Money rituals: Blame corrupt politicians, not Nollywood – DGN replies National Assembly

The Nigerian motion picture industry has replied to the House of Representatives’ assertion that it is to blame for the current trend of money rituals among the country’s youth.

The new tendency has been discovered to be widespread among males, particularly those aged 15 and up.

Some Nigerians accused ‘corrupt’ governments for failing to offer effective leadership and governance for the rise in blood rituals.

On Wednesday, the lower chamber accused movie makers of inciting ritual killings through their films.

Toby Okechukwu, the Deputy Minority Leader, had proposed a resolution of urgent public urgency, which was adopted by the plenary in Abuja.

Okechukwu, who presented the motion, stated that the number of reported ritual killings and abductions in Nigeria had increased alarmingly, as well as condemning the increase in reported ritual killings and abductions in various regions of the nation.

However, the National President of the Nigerian Directors Guild, Victor Okhai, responded by calling the assertions that Nollywood is to blame “laughable.”

He told reporters on Friday that the fact that Nollywood, like TV stations, uses ritual murders in its films does not make them responsible for the threat.

He went on to blame the situation on the National Assembly, saying that they have failed to fulfill their responsibilities and continue to plunder the country.

“I found the news by the House of Reps saying Nollywood is responsible for rituals laughable. So, I ask, when newspapers report about rituals does that make them responsible for rituals or when radio and televisions speak about rituals does that make them culpable?

“You want to know where the real problem is, it’s the National Assembly, every time you compromise and fail in carrying out your responsibilities.

“Everytime you sit there and share loot you’re responsible, leave Nollywood out of it.”
