Man steals two children from Ogun Celestial church on Good Friday

Sakiru Famuyiwa, a middle-aged man, is accused of snatching two children during the Good Friday service at the Celestial Church of Christ Ijeja in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to reports, the man was apprehended on Friday after police officers at the Ibara police division got a distress call.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Ogun police spokesman, revealed that while the Good Friday service was taking place, the suspect and another person who is still at large allegedly “sneaked into the children’s section and “stole” two youngsters aged two and three.

According to Oyeyemi, the guys were spotted on their way out with the youngsters by a diligent church member.

The member who spotted them was alleged to have raised the alarm, and as a result, they were arrested.

It was learnt that after receiving the distress call, the DPO of Ibara division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, promptly mobilised his men and proceeded to the site where the suspect was rescued from the irate mob, who Oyeyemi said were going to lynch him.

He further stated that the suspect has been sent to the State CIID’s anti-kidnapping section for discreet investigation by the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole.

The Commissioner has also directed that the accomplice be tracked down and brought to justice.
