Following a meeting between Prince Ned Nwoko and some National Assembly leadership on the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation’s Malaria Eradication Project to establish a much more robust and sustainable structure to ensure the eradication of malaria in Nigeria, Chairman of the Foundation, Prince Ned Nwoko, met with Deputy Senate President Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Chairman Senate Committee on Health Sen. Ibrahim Oloriegbe yesterday.
Ned handed them a draft Bill for an Act to establish a Federal Government Agency to oversee the long-term implementation of the Malaria Eradication and Waste Management Project in order to achieve a malaria-free Nigeria. Malaria is caused by a dirty environment and stagnant waters, according to Ned.
Malaria will be a thing of the past in Nigeria if we can improve sanitation, manage waste, fumigate the environment, and fund a malaria vaccine. He emphasized the bill’s economic significance as well as the private sector’s willingness to invest in power generation through the waste management and recycling project.
Senator Omo Agege received the bill, stated that he would review it, and expressed his willingness to sponsor it and present it to the National Assembly after proper consultations. Senator Oloriegbe acknowledged Nigeria’s Malaria health challenges and agreed with Ned that this solution is feasible in combating the disease that has ravaged Nigeria and Africa for decades. He also stated that he would take a look at the proposed legislation.
At the National Assembly Press Centre, Ned Nwoko briefed reporters on the proposed Bill and his meeting with the aforementioned individuals. Ned stated that the Agency will be a special purpose vehicle from the Federal Government, tasked specifically to ensure a sustainable implementation of the Malaria Eradication and Waste Management Strategies, in response to a question from one of the journalists about why an agency is needed. Finally, he emphasized the importance of all Africans working together to eradicate malaria.
Hon. Ned Nwoko was accompanied to the office of leadership of NASS by Global Ambassador, Nollywood Actress and wife, Regina Daniels Nwoko; The Project Coordinator, Mr Chukwuebuka Anyaduba and Welfare officer, Nora Okolo.
