Insecurity: Gov Matawalle recruits, trains Community Protection Guards in Zamfara

To effectively fight terrorists that have caused a lot of havoc in Zamfara State, the state, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has commenced the training of the newly recruited Community Protection Guards.

The governor assured that his administration came up with the measures aimed at combating insurgency which has impeded the wheel of progress in the state

He said the Community Protection Guards were recruited from each of the 19 Emirate Councils of the state.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony for the training of the guards in Gusau, Matawalle said his administration was moving towards implementing new security measures that would curb insecurity in every part of the state.

The governor said the decision to establish Community Protection Guards was informed by his administration’s desire to work out all possible options to deal with the increasing act of banditry that has caused the loss of lives, untold hardships and rupturing intercommunal peace in some parts of the state.

He urged the newly recruited guards to concentrate fully on their training and the task of ensuring sanity in the state.

Governor Matawalle stated that as community protection Guards, theirs is a patriotic call, their names would stand out in history as people with remarkable patriotism, selflessness and love for peace.

He said, “Only people with courage and bravery will offer to serve as guards of their communities, bravely standing up to face the brutal infamy of the bandits.”

He enjoined them to work within the parameters of the rules of their engagement, saying that it would be clearly spelt out during the training.

The governor pointed out that they were agents of the restoration, building peace and re-enactment of the golden era of harmonious inter-communal relationships in the northern part of the country.

Governor Bello Matawalle explained that at the end of the training, the CPG members would be deployed to their various communities in the 19 Emirate Councils of the state to energetically complement the security forces in the fight against banditry and sundry crimes in the state.

He advised them to remain disciplined and obedient throughout the exercise and keep in mind that they were trained for a life-saving mission that would spare their neighbourhoods from horror and suffering and restore the security and peaceful coexistence of the people.
