President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to act quickly to prevent Nigerians from a severe economic collapse, according to Archbishop of Kwara Province of the Anglican Communion, Israel Afolabi Amoo.
He said that the security difficulties, as well as farmers/herders disputes, ethnic confrontations, banditry, and kidnapping, necessitated proactive actions by the current government to relieve Nigerians of their suffering.
The Archbishop of Jebba, Kwara, stated during the 22nd provincial assembly that the country’s economic environment is on the verge of collapse due to security concerns in the country.
He emphasized that things had now deteriorated and that the shadow of failing nationhood had never been so evident in the country’s socio-political history.
He urged the president to step up and speak out in the face of challenges to national unity posed by inflammatory words and war drumbeats from separatist groups in some parts of the country.
He explained, “The skirmishes which we have been seeing in some parts of the South West, involving the indigenes and settler Fulani herdsmen is a pointer that the crisis may fester longer than expected.”
He lamented that the silence of President Buhari even in the face of the tragic assault on public peace and constitutional sanity gives the impression that there are people in “this country who own Nigeria more than the rest.”
The Archbishop enjoined all Nigerians to look unto God for salvation and urged everyone to embrace peace in accordance with the theme; “Look to Jesus And Live”.
