Imo civil servants numbering over one thousand, yesterday Thursday 18th of March 2021, besieged the gate to the Imo State Government House in Owerri.
The civil servants arrived Government House Owerri as early as 8am, and prevented vehicles from gaining access to the premises, or even coming out.
The security men, stationed at the gate could not control the civil servants, who would not be intimidated into leaving the premises.
They came, holding up their letters of appointments and postings, as proof to Senator Hope Uzodinma, that they were not ghost workers.
Uzodinma, had in a recent broadcast, claimed that civil servants who haven’t received their salaries, were ghost workers.
The statement had sparked protests, as the workers insist that they be paid their 12 months owed salaries.
The workers had expressed disappointment with Uzodinma, for making the comment, insisting that they had come to puncture the governor’s claims, by presenting their letter of appointment, duly signed by the state.
The civil servants who are over a thousand in number, have not been paid their salaries in over a year, and expressed their disappointment that they would be lied upon by government.
They promised to keep coming and protesting at the gate of Government House, until Hope Uzodinma pay them their salaries.
Their was no reaction from the State government when MaaziTV tried to contact them, on the development.
