Iheanacho, Ndidi leaving for AFCON’ll hurt Foxes –Rodgers

The imminent departure of four Leicester City players, including Super Eagles duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will be devastating for the club(Leicester city), manager Brendan Rodgers reveals.

Ndidi, Iheanacho, Daniel Amartey (Ghana), and Papy Mendy (Senegal) will join up with their national teams after the New Year’s Day match against Norwich, ahead of the month-long tournament in Cameroon.
Because of the injury situation in which Leicester finds itself, their departure is significant.

With Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, and Wesley Fofana all out injured, Ndidi and Amartey formed the centre-back partnership for Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Liverpool. The Foxes will only have one fit senior centre-back after they depart in Jannik Vestergaard.

Iheanacho is set to leave up front, and with Patson Daka out injured, Leicester will be without a striker to replace Jamie Vardy, who appeared to be struggling with his hamstring during the win over Liverpool.

Depending on how far their countries advance in the tournament, the four players could miss up to four or five games.

Those eliminated in the group stages are only allowed to miss two games: an FA Cup third-round tie against Watford and a home Premier League match against Brighton.

Those who advance will miss a trip to Burnley and, if Leicester advances, the FA Cup fourth round.
If they make it to the final, the return match on February 10 at Liverpool may be too soon for them.
