IGP condemns increased attacks on Police formations in Nigeria

Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has decried the rising number of assaults on police formations in several federation states.

The IG was addressing on Tuesday in Lokoja at a Police Public Complaint Committee (PPCC) awareness program organized by the Ministry of Police Affairs for the North Central zone.

Baba encouraged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to redouble their efforts in ensuring appropriate protection of life and property to Nigerians, and he asked people’ assistance and collaboration to accomplish this achievement.

He stated that the purpose of the sensitization program is to allow stakeholders to communicate in order to address areas of disagreement that would improve the productivity of police officers in carrying out their jobs.

Usman Alkali Baba who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) zone eight (8) Edeh Ayuba, said the Police Force is the creation of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, saddled with the responsibility of protecting and providing adequate security for the people of the country.

He commended the Minister of Police Affairs Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi for creating a platform through which the sensitization campaign can effectively reach the stakeholders across the country.

The IG, however, lamented the recent mayhem unleashed on some police officers in some states, noting that the sensitization campaign programme will put an end to such attacks.

He charged officers and men of the force to always discharge their duties within the ambits of the law to protect the image of the force.

The AIG who delivered the speech of the Inspector General, said many Nigerians are ignorant of the law.

He appealed to them to acquaint themselves with the necessary law in order not to be arrested by the police.
