Germany and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos announced his retirement from the national team.
Kroos’s retirement is Following Germany’s 2-0 defeat to England in the Round of 16 of the Euro 2021.
Kroos (31) has made 106 appearances for Die Mannschaft, making him the joint 7th most capped player alongside former Bayern teammate Thomas Müller.
He is one cap above 1990 World Cup winner Jürgen Kohler (105) and two caps behind former German national team coach Jürgen Klinsmann (108).
During his national team career, Kroos scored 17 goals for his country.
Arguably his most famous would be the goal that beat Sweden in the doomed 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia which kept Germany’s knockout hopes alive for another day.
Kroos played every minute of Germany’s four games at Euro 2020. In 360 minutes of play, he managed just four shots, none on target.
