In Ondo State, a fruit seller was slain by assailants presumed to be Fulani herdsmen.
Mrs Roseline Joguntan, the victim, was reported to have been gang-raped on a farm in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, before being slain.
Mrs Joguntan, a middle-aged woman, had gone to her family farm on the community’s zion axis during the weekend when the event occurred.
According to a source, the deceased went to the farm with her daughter and picked vegetables that she instructed her daughter to carry home.
When her daughter arrived to the property, she noticed her mother was missing, and her corpse was discovered in the bush.
Following the finding of her body on the property, the deceased’s husband, Mr Joguntan, reported the incident to the police station.
Funmilayo Odunlami, the State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, said that when the deceased’s husband couldn’t contact her on the phone, he rushed to the farm to check on her, where he discovered her lifeless corpse in a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, several inhabitants of the village have claimed that the perpetrators are herdsmen who have taken over the region and committed different atrocities.
It was said that shortly after the event, several herders were observed fleeing the area in large numbers.
Also speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, Ilaje Security Council, Prince Emorioloye Owolemi, urged the state government and security agencies in the state to come to their rescue in Igbokoda.
Owolemi lamented that the killings were becoming rampant in the local government.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue by the police.
