The five defendants accused of cannibalism have been charged before the Chief Magistrate Court in Gusau, the state capital, by the Zamfara State Police command.
The Police Prosecutor, SP Jaafar Muhammad, informed the sitting Magistrate, Sa’adu Garba Gurbin Bore, that the police had submitted their findings to the State Ministry of Justice’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) since January 31, 2022.
According to him, the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction in the case, thus the police presented the findings of their investigation to the DPP in order for the case to be reassigned to a court of sufficient jurisdiction for appropriate prosecution.
The Chief Magistrate, Sa’adu Gurbin Bore, ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction. He remanded the accused to a penitentiary facility, while the minor among them was sent to a remand home.
He adjourned the case to 15th March, 2022 for further mention.
One of the family members of the butchered late Ahmad, Sadiya Abdurahman Hafizi, could not control her emotions as she kept shouting in the court, demanding justice.
Recall that on 25th January, 2022, the Zamfara State Police Command arraigned the five suspects before the Chief Magistrate Court in Gusau, the State capital for Criminal Conspiracy, culpable homicide and cannibalism.
The suspects were charged for killing 9-year-old Ahmad Yakubu and for eating some parts of his body organs, such as intestine, eyes and throat.
