First Class Mathematics Graduate From UNN, Won PHD Scholarship In US

First class mathematician graduate from UNN , won US scholarship to further PHD

A UNN ( University of Nigeria Nsukka) graduate in mathematics , Emmanuel Nworie had gained a fully funded scholarship at the united states to further a course in PHD.

Emannuel hails from ebonyi state, came from a poor family, has experienced hardship, engaged in farming to keep up with ends meet. Few months ago a pictures of his tilling the soil went viral, due to lack of a platform to utilize his knowledge.

Nworie, 27, graduated with a cummulative grade point(CGP) average of 4.92/ 5.00 had known hardship before applying for the micheal Taiwo (MT) scholarship.

“I started having challenges in 2005 when we struggled with the health of my dad. I have long waited to be a mathematician . But after my dad passed away, I was deterred, because at some point when I was trying to save for undergraduate studies, and after two years I couldn’t save enough, so I was frustrated”, he said in an interview with the cable.

Michael Taiwo , a US based Nigerian and sponsor of MT scholarship, alongside Suraj Oyewale, founder of jarus Hub, a career and education platform identified Nworie during the selection of candidates for the scholarship.

Nworie emerged as one of the 23 candidates selected from 1509 applicants for scholarship covering costs for application fees and graduate record exam (GRE)- a requirement for the graduate application for some course in the US.

Taiwo announced Nworie’s selection for a fully funded PHD in mathematics at the southern Methodist University in dallas, Texas, (SMU), a prestigious research university,”he received three great offer from schools in the southern part of the US” he said.

Taiwo commended and appreciated his mentor, Dr Busayo Aworunse for the role he played in the outcome that led to the success of Emmanue Nworie, and congratulated him for his outstanding performance, noting his achievement as ‘remarkable’.

“It cost over $75,000 per year to attend SMU, Emmanuel won’t pay a single dollar out of this, in addition to this, he will be given a very generous stipend to cater for his living expenses .The interested thing is that he got three of this type offer from the southern Methodist University, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and University of Texas at dallas”, he added.
