EPL: Manchester Utd in shock move for Chelsea target after Rangnick’s arrival

Following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as temporary manager, Manchester United is likely to make a surprise approach for Chelsea target Jules Kounde.

Manchester United are reportedly ‘well situated’ to launch a move for the highly-rated Sevilla defender, according to SuperDeporte.

According to the article, Sevilla is already looking for a successor for Kounde.

Kounde is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in the world, attracting interest from a number of elite teams in the past, including Chelsea.

The 23-year-old wanted to move to Chelsea last summer, with the Champions League holders keen to do a deal for him.

Chelsea initially believed they had reached an agreement over Kounde’s fee, only for Sevilla to raise their asking price for the center-back by £12.8million to £68.5m, a figure which the Stamford Bridge club refused to match.

Meanwhile, speaking about Kounde, Sevilla’s sporting director, Monchi, said in August this year that they will sell the player to Chelsea or other clubs if an acceptable bid is tabled for the France defender.

“Many clubs have asked for Kounde,” Monchi said.

“Of course, there is interest, but no official offer is on the table.

“I don’t know what is going to happen. We will sell if an important bid arrives, this is our policy to improve the team.”
