According to the UK Mirror, Manchester City’s purchase of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez has smoothed the way for Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani to join River Plate in the summer.
Alvarez, 21, will cost City £15.5 million in front, with a further £7 million in potential add-ons.
The youngster, though, will remain on loan at River Plate until the summer.

The Argentine club intends to replace Alvarez with Cavani, who is nearing the end of his contract with United.
The cash River Plate will get from City, means they can now afford Cavani’s wage demands.
Cavani, who will turn 35 on February 14, earns more than £250,000 a week at Old Trafford.
