The Electoral College confirmed Democrats Joe Biden on Monday as the next United States president.
The confirmation ratifies his November victory in an authoritative state-by-state repudiation of President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede defeat.
Joe Biden won 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, the same margin that Trump bragged was a landslide when he won the White House four years ago.
On General Election Day, the Democrat topped the incumbent Republican by more than 7 million in the popular vote nationwide.
This is coming as one of President Donald Trump’s staunchest allies, US Attorney General, William Barr resigns.
Barr is departing amid lingering tension over the president’s baseless claims of election fraud and the investigation into President-elect Joe Biden’s son.
President Donald Trump confirmed his resignation, he said the attorney general submitted his letter of resignation.
Trump say in a tweet:
“As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family,”
The Attorney general’s faceoff with Trump started when he told the Associated Press earlier this month that the Justice Department had found no widespread fraud that would change the outcome of the election.
