Delta Speaker declares interest in governorship race

Chief Sherriff Oborevwori, Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, expressed his intention to run for Governor of Delta under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform on Wednesday.

The Speaker, who was joined by certain lawmakers and political friends from around the state, made the announcement at the PDP state secretariat in Asaba.

Oborevwori stated that one of his primary goals would be to build on the current administration’s already established social-economic and infrastructure development.

He utilized the forum to dispute a social media story that claimed he was detained by security agents on many occasions for financial misconduct.

“I want to use this medium to say that there was never a time I was arrested by security agencies.

”As Speaker of the State House of Assembly for close to seven years now, I am bold to say that I have never been accused of financial mismanagement.

“I am a prudent leader and that is what has kept me going and succeeding as Speaker of the most vibrant House of Assembly in the country.

“Today, I am here to consult with stakeholders of our great party; the PDP, of my ambition to run for Governorship position in the State,” he said.

The Speaker said if given the position, he would not disappoint the party and the people of the state in general.

“I am ready to listen more, do more and achieve more.”

”As far as I have been able to manage the State Legislature for five years, I can manage the state. You all know that it is not easy managing the lawmakers,” he said.
