Deeper Life Pastor Emerges Traditional Ruler-Elect

John Elaigwu Odogbo, the pastor of A Deeper Life Church, has been elected as the paramount ruler of Idomaland.
He was elected by kingmakers after an election was conducted.

Andrew Idakwu, John Bamaiyi, Sunday Echono, and Pastor John Eliagwu Odogbo were the four finalists for the stool.

Andrew Idakwu received one vote, Pastor John Elaigwu Odogbo received 19 votes, and Sunday Echono received eight votes at the end of the kingmakers’ voting.

The Och’Idoma-elect was presented to the state governor, Samuel Ortom, on Thursday at the government house in Makurdi by the Idoma traditional council.

The paramount ruler-elect is from Benue State’s Agatu Local Government Area.

His Royal Highness Elias Ikoyi Obekpa, the paramount ruler of Idomaland, passed away in October 2021. He was a native of Ogbadibo and ascended the throne in 1996 after HRM Abraham Ajene Okpabi died.

Ortom praised the Idoma people for choosing their new monarch, saying he had always stood for fairness, transparency, and justice.

He claimed that the appointment is God’s, who chooses and anoints a person to carry out His will.

“We will find a convenient day to do the coronation. I want the contribution of the traditional rulers to my administration,” Ortom said.

The new Ochi’Idoma was born on March 27, 1969, in Obagaji, the headquarters of the state’s Agatu Local Government Area, to the family of Elaigwu Ekoja as the fifth child.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1994 and is currently working on his Philosophy of Doctors (PhD).
