COVID-19 vaccine: Pharmacists take campaign to rural dwellers

The Noble Foundation Pharmacists has asked pharmacists to spread the word about the COVID-19 vaccination to rural populations.

This happened amid a deluge of negative press around the COVID-19 vaccination, a situation that has deterred a number of individuals from getting the vaccine.

In a press statement, the Foundation’s President, Chief Pharm. Chidiebere Ugwu, stated that an aggressive campaign on COVID-19 immunization was urgently needed to eliminate “unfounded allegations.”

“Nigeria pharmacists must strengthen efforts to persuade the public to take the vaccination,” Ugwu said.

“We all know that as it stands, there is no known cure for COVID-19. All we need to do now is to adhere to the non-pharmaceutical measures and then take the two jabs of the vaccine. This is the only way we can help the society and help ourselves.

“The world has been in chaos since the beginning of the pandemic in 2019. This has crippled the world socially, culturally, politically and economically.

“We also know that COVID-19 imposed lockdown has brought depressions and manner of things to various homes; that is why we all need to collaborate and limit its threat on the globe.”

He noted that “the only way to get back to normalcy was through vaccination. Unfortunately, many people are yet to get this vaccine.

“Pharmacists are then encouraged to seize this opportunity to not only educate the masses about the importance of getting vaccinated but also give the shots themselves.

“The host and the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa is in total support of this call as he has also on several occasions urged the Pharmacists to get necessary training that will enable them to effectively deliver jabs to the citizenry.”
