Buhari Speaks on His Favourite Presidential Candidate Ahead of 2023 Elections

  • President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the general elections in 2023 are unimportant to him.
  • Nonetheless, the president mentioned a favourite person who he may want to run for president as his party’s candidate.
  • Fearing that he would be “eliminated” President Buhari did not reveal the identity of the said favourite.

President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken out about a preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Wednesday night, January 5, the president discussed this.

President Buhari claims to have a favourite presidential candidate but refuses to name him.

President Buhari, on the other hand, has remained tight-lipped about his preferred presidential candidate, fearing that if he is revealed now, he will be “eliminated.”

When asked who his preferred presidential candidate is to succeed him, the president stated:

“I won’t tell you my favourite for 2023, he may be eliminated if I mention. I better keep it secret.” 

President Buhari also stated that the 2023 election is unimportant to him.

Salihu Lukman, the director-general of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), made Freshreporters News to understand that picking a presidential candidate outside the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be counterproductive.

Pushing for the emergence of an APC presidential candidate outside the party’s structures, according to Lukman, is a threat to internal unity among members and leaders.

The APC chieftain said in a statement released on Sunday, October 3 in Abuja, that the campaign and negotiations for a power shift should take place within the party structures.
