Bandits in vast numbers, equipped with sophisticated weaponry, wreaked havoc on the Batsari local government area in Katsina on Tuesday, murdering 11 people and razing hundreds of homes and cars.
The robbers assaulted the village late Tuesday evening, according to a reputable source in the neighborhood, and plunged the people into chaos that lasted until daylight.
During the operation, the hoodlums are claimed to have targeted at least five settlements in the Batsari local government, according to the source.
Due to the security challenges in the state, particularly relating to the lack of telecommunication networks in the area, sources cannot be reached to ascertain the exact level of damages inflicted on the communities.
However, an official statement from the Police Spokesman in the State, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.
SP. Gambo’s statement read thus: “Yesterday, 9 November 2021, at about 1915hrs, bandits in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked Katoge and Yanturaku quarters of Batsari LGA, killed eleven (11) and injured thirteen (13) persons.
”The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, has deployed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of operations, with additional units of PMF personnel to the area to beef up security and restore confidence on the affected communities.”
