Antonio Rudiger, a Chelsea defender, has criticized the Ballon d’Or organizers for failing to include his teammate Edouard Mendy on their 30-man shortlist announced last week.
After his man of the match performance against Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League 1-0 triumph, Rudiger sought an explanation for Mendy’s Ballon d’Or omission.
Remember that the Ballon d’Or shortlist for this year was revealed a few days ago, and five Chelsea players were among them.
The squad included Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta, Romelu Lukaku, and Mason Mount.
Mendy enjoyed a stunning debut season in the English Premier League and capped it off by winning the UEFA Champions League, as Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the final.
The Senegal goalkeeper also won the UEFA Super Cup with Thomas Tuchel’s side.
However, Rudiger believes Mendy deserved to be recognized for his impressive performance for Chelsea.
“Someone explain why he’s not nominated for the Ballon d’Or,” Rudiger wrote on Twitter.
“What a performance… EDOUARD MENDY.”
