Apogbon Market Fire:LASG closes Eko Bridge, announces alternative routes

Following the blaze that devoured the Apongbon axis of the bridge in the early hours of Wednesday, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has shut down Eko Bridge while diverting traffic to alternate routes for the safety of commuters.

Dr Frederic Oladeinde, the Commissioner for Transportation, announced the news in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, and also provided other routes that vehicles should take.

Oladeinde stated that an integrity examination will be performed on the bridge to determine the extent of damage caused by the fire incident and to ensure proper reconstruction.

He recommended cars traveling to Apongbon from Surulere and its surroundings to take the Ijora/Apapa road or the Leventis/UBA Roundabout to link with the Marina and continue on to their destination.

Oladeinde said that the State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials  were already on ground along the alternative routes to minimise inconveniences.

The Commissioner empathised with owners of shops razed down during the inferno, assuring them and the residents of Lagos  State that the government was fully committed to ensuring safety of the commuting public within the metropolis.
