Acting LASTMA boss seeks media support

Mr Bolaji Oreagba, Ag. General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, a seasoned traffic manager who newly assumed office as the boss of the agency has sought the cooperation of the motoring public in obeying traffic laws and regulations to avoid being arrested by enforcement agents.

He made this plea at a media parley with some journalists at the agency’s Headquarters at Oshodi on Monday.

He also sought for the cooperation of the media with the new administration in the agency in effecting attitudinal change in the use of Lagos roads by the generality of the people in order to improve the rate of traffic flow and to fulfil greater Lagos’ as been canvased by the administration of the Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

In the words of Oreagba: “Traffic offences will be reduced to the minimum if not totally eradicated if all road users adhere strictly to all rules and regulations on traffic guidelines. We urge the media to assist in propagating our traffic laws to the motoring public in order to get them familiar with these laws.”

The Ag.GM further opined that compliance to the traffic law by road users is abysmally low which culminated in the impounding of 3,850 vehicles, private and commercial within the months of May to July 2021. He further said that this figure does not represent the total figure of traffic law violators because it is absolutely impossible to apprehend all offenders.

“Lagos State traffic laws with offences and penalties are obtainable at All road users, private and public car owners, in particular, are encouraged to always report cases of excesses of LASTMA officials. As LASTMA officers are expected to be civil in their mode of operation when they apprehend traffic violators”, added Oreagba.

Moving Lagos traffic forward is a collective responsibility of all Lagosians which involves cooperation and strict adherence to traffic laws at all times, the LASTMA new chief said.
